Congress leader Koustav Bagchi arrested for derogatory remarks against Mamata Banerjee

Shillong, March 4: Congress leader Koustav Bagchi was today arrested for making derogatory remarks against West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee during a television talk show.

A written complaint was received by police at the Burtolla Police Station in Kolkata against the Congress leader Koustav Bagchi. He is known to criticize Mamata Banerjee even in the past. Police have registered an FIR based on the complaint.

Bagchi was arrested by police today at around 7.30 am from his home in Barrackpore after being questioned for hours.

Bagchi wrote on Facebook, “Jail k taale tutenge..Hum bohot hi jaldi chutenge..Lorai cholbe..Koustav Bagchi Jhukega Nahi”

Several sections under Indian Penal Code (IPC) have been slapped against Koustav Bagchi including 120B (criminal conspiracy), 354A (sexual harassment), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 505 (act induces or is likely to induce any person to commit offence against state or against public tranquility), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) among others.
