SHILLONG, March 3: The District Election Officer has convened a meeting on Monday to discuss the request of the VPP for recounting of votes polled from Mylliem constituency.
Earlier, VPP general secretary Dr. Ricky AJ Syngkon, on behalf of the party candidate Aibandaplin F Lyngdoh, had requested the DEO for recounting of votes.
“It has been noted by the Counting Agent of the Party at Table No 4 that the EVM of Polling Station No 44 Mawrie B was found to be in ON mode which should have been on OFF mode even before the counting started,” Syngkon said.
He also pointed out that at Polling Station No 8 Nongkseh Pyrda and Lumpdeng B, the Returning Officer directed that the VVPAT slip be counted instead of the EVM, which was reported to be faced with technical snag.
“This matter, we believe, should have been resolved and corrected at the right time so that counting be done from the EVM only,” Syngkon said.
Meanwhile, Sohra UDP candidate Titostarwell Chyne on Friday wrote to CEO FR Kharkongor for recounting of votes, stating that he was unhappy with the results.
In this regard, the SDO (Election) of Sohra Civil Sub-Division has been directed to convene a meeting with the complainant.
