NONGSTOIN, March 4: As the two Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) MLAs, Methodius Dkhar of Mawshynrut and Shakliar Warjri of Mawthadraishan, are under fire for extending support to the National People’s Party (NPP) in forming the government, the party’s Maweit zone, Lyngngam zone and Shilliang Wahblei have backed Dkhar’s decision.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, HSPDP Mawshynrut president M Umyiap said that people of Mawshynrut stand firm with the decision of their elected representative.
“We have elected him and he has chosen wisely to be in the government led by NPP,” Umyiap said, adding that one should not mix community sentiments with politics or religion as it will lead to chaos.
Expressing shock at people protesting and torching effigies of Dkhar in the state capital, Umyiap argued that the MLA is accountable to the decision of the people of his constituency and not to the ones from other constituencies, including the NGOs.
Meanwhile, the HSPDP youth wing from Mawthadraishan constituency has also condemned the burning of effigies of their MLA, Warjri.
HSPDP youth wing president K Syiemlieh said that the youth wing respects the decision of Warjri.
Arguing that they believe that the decision of the MLA has been taken in keeping with the interests of the people of Mawthadraishan constituency, Syiemlieh maintained that people in state capital as well as the NGOs should abstain from interfering in the internal matters of Mawthadraishan constituency.
