SHILLONG, March 11: Congress MLA, Saleng Sangma on Saturday said he is surprised that the parties, which attacked the BJP and called it anti-Christian ahead of the polls, now cannot do without it.
He said these parties went against one another in the lead-up to the elections but came together to form a coalition government. By doing this, they fooled people, he said.
“They were saying BJP is killing Christians and attacking churches but I am surprised to see that everybody here needs BJP,” Sangma said, adding it is wrong to be judgmental about any party.
“The BJP has only two MLAs. Earlier they spoke against BJP but without it, nobody can form the government here. Why are people fooled this way?” the Congress MLA asked.
According to him, those who hated BJP and accused it of killing Christians now need it for development.
“When you don’t want BJP, you should not form a government with it. If you need BJP, say directly to vote for it as they can bring more development in the state,” Sangma said.
He said the next time, people should directly vote for the BJP as nobody in Meghalaya wants to form the government without the saffron party.
“It is a hypocrisy to say that we hate BJP and we don’t need BJP,” he said, asking people not to hate any political party in future.
Earlier, he had said whoever governs the state should not narrow down their interests and look at the interests of people, society and the state.
