NESFAS, in collaboration with The Locavore, will host “Celebration of Millet — an Indigenous Peoples’ Heritage of Meghalaya”, an event to “commemorate the comeback of a traditional crop of the people of Meghalaya- millet”. According to a statement, the programme will be held at 11 am on March 16 at NESFAS Headquarters, Laitumkhrah. “The event will showcase the potential of this heritage food (millet) through innovative recipes co-developed by the communities and Chef Thomas Zacharias, with the support of local chefs from Shillong,” the statement said.
Rotary Club Shillong Heritage, in collaboration with the Sociology Department of St. Mary’s College, Shillong, celebrated the 111th International Women’s Day by holding a panel discussion on the UN theme ‘DigitALL : Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’. The webinar was partaken by panelists comprising women from various organisations and walks of life. During the programme — which was attended by around 200 people comprising students from various departments, teachers, guests and Rotarians — the Club also gave away electrical stoves and sanitary hygiene kits to the children of St. Mary’s Children’s Home.
Jan Shikshan Sansthan, East Khasi Hills, celebrated International Women’s Day on March 9 at Lapalang Community Hall. According to a statement, the programme was thematised on ‘DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’. The programme was attended by Rebina Subba, an advocate and a former member of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women, as the chief guest, members of self-help groups from different localities, and members of the Northeast Network.
Closure
The Greater Shillong Crematorium & and Mortuary Society (GSC&MS) has informed that the Shillong Electric Crematorium at Jhalupara will be closed from March 12 to March 14 due to the trail run/testing of the second furnace of the crematorium, which has been recently replaced.
