Farmers gather in Delhi again; press for legal guarantee on MSP

Shillong, March 20: Thousands of farmers gathered at Delhi’s Ramlila Ground on Monday where they pressed for several demands including legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP).

Over 15000 farmers under the umbrella of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) gathered in Delhi. Traffic police had already diverted the traffic in the wake of the rally.

Leader of SKM Darshan Pal said, “The Centre must fulfill the assurances it gave to us in writing on December 9, 2021, and also take effective steps to mitigate the ever-increasing crisis faced by farmers”.

Delhi Traffic Police released a traffic advisory that is to be followed by the citizens of Delhi as long as the rally continues.

Delhi Traffic Police said, “In view of Sanyukt Kisaan Morcha’s rally at Ramlila Ground, Kamla Market tomorrow ie on March 20, 2023, commuters and motorists are advised to avoid roads around Ramlila Ground specially JLN Marg from Delhi Gate to Ajmeri Gate Chowk”.

The rally which started at around 10 am will continue till 3.30 pm. Farmers from 11 states participated in the rally.

Farmers are also demanding to dissolve the committee on MSP saying that it was not supporting demands made by farmers. Other demands include pension, debt waiver, compensation for those who died during the farmers’ protest in 2021.
