SHILLONG, March 22: Construction of one residential school has been completed in Meghalaya while 18 more are pending, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma informed the House on Wednesday.
The education minister was responding to a query by Congress MLA Saleng A Sangma during the Question Hour on the third day of the ongoing Budget session.
Some of the locations where residential schools are being set up across the state are Mawsmai Nongthymmai Residential School (Shella Bholaganj), Lawbah Residential School (Mawsynram), Shnongkalong Residential School (Ranikor), Lawbyrtun Residential School (Mawthadraishan), Riangkhain Residential School (Mawshynrut), Umjan Mawtari Residential School (Umsning), Nongrim Synjai Residential School (Umling), Jirang Residential School (Jirang), Sabahmuswang Residential School (Thadlaskein), Shangpung Residential School (Laskein), Pdengshakap Residential School (Amlarem), Jalaphet Residential School (Saipung), Byndihati Residential School (Khliehriat), Raja Raonggat Residential School (Chokpot), Edenbari ABDK Residential School (Rongram), Chitchakgre Residential School (Gambegre), Insambal Residential School (Kharkutta), Nongchram Demik Residential School (Rongjeng) and Kapasipara Residential School (Gasuapara).
On the other hand, 36 Eklavya model residential schools will be constructed across the state at Rs 20 crore each with a completion target of three years.
Ekalavya schools will be on par with Navodaya Vidyalayas and will have special facilities for preserving local art and culture besides providing training in sports and skills.
