SHILLONG, March 22: The state government has no plan to create Mawhati C&RD Block, C&RD Minister Abu Taher Mondal said, while replying to a query of Mawhati Congress MLA Charles Marngar on the third day of the ongoing Budget session.
Stating that there are no specific guidelines for the creation of a new C&RD block, Mondal continued, “We take a decision after studying feasibility report and take a call as and when creation of a new block is required.”
Earlier, the Congress MLA had enquired if the state government intends to create Mawhati C&RD Block.
Expressing his happiness at the recent creation of nine C&RD blocks across the state so as to bring administration closer to the people, the Congress MLA said, “I would like to know whether the government has any intention to create the Mawhati C&RD Block, which is a long-pending demand. The Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong had submitted the memorandum to the then C&RD Minister in 2021.”
He continued by saying that the creation of the C&RD Block is critical since the people of his constituency, especially those who reside in the border villages, have to travel not less than 80 km and reach Umsning C&RD Block for official purposes.
Meanwhile, Nongkrem VPP MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit also asked if the government proposes to create a C&RD Block in his constituency, to which the minister replied in negative.
