CM downplays state’s debt obligation

SHILLONG, March 23: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has downplayed the apprehensions that it would be difficult for the state to repay loans availed from externally aided projects.
Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, the chief minister said that the loan and debt level of Meghalaya is within what the Finance Ministry permits.
He also made it clear that 90 per cent of the funds which are coming to Meghalaya as loan will be repaid by the central government.
“These are not loans in full to us. We only pay 10 per cent of this and the 90 per cent is paid by the central government,” he said.
