Editor,
What happens when many rivers flow to a small sea? This is happening in Shillong City. All roads converge at Khyndai Lad and Mothphran and these two places are overflowing. Even the Honourable High Court had to intervene and direct the Government to come out with a proper plan to ease traffic jam. Flyover is only a dream, since it is not possible. Widening a road will not work when the two gravitated junctions at Motphran and Khyndai Lad are smaller than the road itself. Overflow is the answer to the above question. Do not lose hope, we have the Them Metor and the old Assembly premises which can be wisely used. Hawkers can be shifted to a safe and respectable place in a proper manner and widening of footpaths is most welcome. It would be prudent for the government to plan the roads of New Shillong Township keeping in mind our present experience in Shillong, and considering what would be viable for at least another fifty years. Our experience is mind numbing, but let us hope for the best.
Yours etc.
