300 sheep, goats killed in lightening in Uttarakhand

Shillong, March 24: Over 300 goats and sheep perished when lightning struck them on Saturday evening in the Khattu Khal forests of Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand.

Sanjeev Rawat, a resident of Barsu village, and his friend was transporting their sheep and goats from Rishikesh to Uttarkashi when lightning struck killing at least 300 animals to death.

A government team will be dispatched to the scene to assess the damage, according to reports. The team will submit a report with the district administration and compensation will be released to the owners of the animals.

The Met Office predicts that rain will continue to fall in Uttarakhand till March 30.
