Umpire killed for signalling ‘no ball’ during cricket match in Odisha

Shillong, April 3: An umpire of a local match in Cuttak of Odisha was killed after he signaled ‘no ball’ during a cricket match.

The incident took place on Sunday in Cuttack.

The deceased, Lucky Raut, 22, was stabbed to death, according to the circumstances, by one Smruti Ranjan Rout after a dispute over the ‘no ball’ signal.

According to eyewitnesses, Lucky Raut was stabbed on the pitch with a sharp knife. The culprit was then apprehended by spectators and turned over to the authorities.

The man was being sent to CB Medical College and Hospital where doctors there declared him dead.

According to reports, Brahmapur and Shankarpur were the two teams in the cricket match.

The incident sparked unrest in the village, which led to the deployment of police troops to prevent any untoward developments. The police are investigating the matter.
