Resubelpara, April 6: In a freak accident, a 12-year-old lost his life while he was coming downhill in a cycle without brakes near the village of Nishangram under Mendipathar police station last evening, Apr 5.

The 12-year-old was playing along with at least five of his friends when the tragedy occurred. However, since his death, none of the 5 people have come forward to help identify the victim whose body remains under police custody in Mendipathar.

As per sources, the 12-year-old lost control of his bicycle, leading to him crashing head on a foundation stone that had been laid below. He died on the spot after which the other children, who were apparently playing with him prior to the accident, fled out of fear.

North Garo Hills police have been trying frantically to find the identity of the deceased but have failed so far as none havscome forward to claim the boy.

As the area falls close to the border with Assam, finding the identity of the deceased has suddenly become a Herculean task.

“We have alerted nearby police stations in Assam including Dudhnoi, Goalpara, Damra among others but none have reported anything back yet. We want to hand over the victim to the family and so are waiting for someone to come forward. I appeal to all that may have information on the identity or address of the boy to come forward and inform us,” stated NGH SP, Shailendra Bamaniya.

A post mortem has been conducted to ascertain the cause of death and the police have sent out an appeal to help identify the victim.
