SHILLONG, April 5: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) will meet next week to discuss the ruling of High Court of Meghalaya on the roster system.
Disclosing this, CLP leader Ronnie V. Lyngdoh told journalists on Wednesday that a decision will be accordingly taken at the CLP meeting.
He said the Congress is “very happy” with the court’s ruling. The party will insist that the roster system is implemented prospectively, he added.
“It will be unfair for the job-seekers from Khasi-Jaintia Hills if the government decides to implement the roster system retrospectively,” Lyngdoh said.
He said there should be a justification of whatever decision the government is taking on this matter.
Lyngdoh also said the Congress will decide at the CLP meeting if it should demand a special session of the Assembly on the issue.
On Tuesday, the Voice of the People Party decided to petition Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma to convene a special session of the Assembly to discuss the issue of the implementation of roster system and the state job reservation policy in the light of the court’s April 3, 2023 order.
The party took the decision during its central executive committee meeting.
The court had observed that the cut-off retrospective date for implementation of the roster reservation system in Meghalaya is a policy matter that is best left to the legislature and the executive.
