MAWKYRWAT, April 5: Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L Tongkhar has contended that with the recruitment of qualified and trained teachers, the government schools in the state have started to take precedence over private schools.
Tongkhar said this while addressing a gathering at an inaugural programme of the new school building of the Phlangkynshi Government Lower Primary School.
The new school building has been constructed under the School Infrastructure Upgradation Project, funded through the Phase-I of the State Scheme at the cost of Rs.37 lakh.
Addressing the gathering, Tongkhar said that many are now likely to rush to government schools, seeking admission, with the recruitment of qualified and trained teachers.
“Sometimes we feel sad to see that the government schools are the most rejected schools in many villages and places. However, this time, many things will change and we expect that both the parents and students will rush to government schools for admission because we have the best teachers who have been trained.”
Informing that the government does not appoint teachers who have a maximum qualification of Class XII or Graduation anymore, he said only those who have been trained and have cleared MTET will be eligible for appointment to government schools.
“Therefore, in teachers’ recruitment nowadays, untrained candidates will not qualify and even if they sought help from anyone, they will not be entertained unless they are trained. Therefore, I urge upon the parents to now turn to government schools because they have the best to offer to the students,” the MLA said.
Others who were present on the occasion include Mawkyrwat Block Development Officer, I Lawriniang, and District School Education Officer, South West Khasi Hills, S. Kharsahnoh, among others.
