SHILLONG, April 5: West Garo Hills Police has denied and trashed reports of any post-poll violence in Phulbari.
Unconfirmed reports have alleged post-poll violence in Phulbari recently. Sources from Phulbari, who chose to remain anonymous, had claimed that several Trinamool Congress supporters were roughed up and some had sustained grievous injuries.
“There have been at least 20-25 incidents of violence but no complaint was filed as TMC supporters were afraid to go to the police,” the source said, while adding that a boy was assaulted as recently as Tuesday and he had to be shifted to Goalpara in Assam for treatment.
When contacted, West Garo Hills SP, Vivekanand Singh termed the assault cases as rumours. He admitted that a few incidents have been reported but those had nothing to do with elections.
“Most of these incidents were related to personal issues and some people are trying to paint it as post-poll violence,” he said.
