Forest in Ri-Bhoi declared community reserve

SHILLONG, April 6: The state government has declared the Lum Matiang Raid Forest of Raid Umket at Ri-Bhoi as a community reserve with immediate effect. With this, the same will be now known as Lum Matlang Raid Umket Community Reserve.
According to a statement here, the government has also constituted a management committee for the community reserve.
“In exercise of the powers conferred under section 36 C of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 (as amended up to 2006), the Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to declare the Lum Matiang Raid Forest of Raid Umket at Ri-Bhoi District as a Community Reserve to be known as the ‘Lum Matlang Raid Umket Community Reserve’ with immediate effect as per the schedule of boundaries,” it said.
