SHILLONG, April 13: UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh has said that his party will perform well in the by-elections to Sohiong constituency not only because of the “sympathy wave” but also because of a “young and committed candidate”.
The by-election to Sohiong constituency is scheduled for May 10 for which the UDP has fielded Synshar Kupar Lyngdoh.
“The sympathy wave is just one part of the contest. But we are going to do well because we have a young and committed candidate,” Metbah said.
Stating that people would like to pay their respect to former MLA (L) HDR Lyngdoh this by-election, Metbah said that the party candidate is not a new face since he was with the former right from the time when he was an MLA.
Informing that the UDP is gearing up for the electoral battle in Sohiong constituency, Metbah said, “We are also getting good feedback from various nook and corners of the constituency.”
When asked if the decision of the UDP to join the MDA 2.0 will backfire, Metbah said people of Sohiong constituency understand the political situation.
