NONGPOH, April 14: Former Umroi MLA, George B Lyngdoh, has expressed his gratitude for a sanction of Rs. 17.88 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for the construction of two long-neglected roads in Ri-Bhoi, viz. 14-km Bhoirymbong to Mawbsein Road and 10-km Nongthymmai to Khyndewso Road.
Taking to Twitter on Friday, Lyngdoh expressed his delight at the news, and said that the sanction of funds for these two roads would bring a better future for the people of Raid Madan Kyrdem, who have suffered greatly due to the poor road conditions.
He expressed his gratitude to the officers of the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD).
It is worth noting that Lyngdoh in 2021 had petitioned the MoRD for the construction of the two roads.
With the sanction now accorded, it is hoped that the construction work would begin soon, and the roads will finally receive the attention they needed.
The construction of these two roads is also expected to have a positive impact on the local communities, particularly in terms of improving access to essential services and boosting economic activity in the area.
