Village heads back KSU demand for C&RD Block at Umdohlun-Wahkaji

MAWKYRWAT, April 14: The Sordar Shnongs and other village leaders from different villages in Umdohlun-Wahkaji area, South West Khasi Hills, on Friday extended full support to the KSU, Lai Hima Zone, for the demand to upgrade the area into a C&RD Block.
The KSU Lai Hima Zone on Friday organised a meeting with the Sordar Shnongs and village leaders from different villages in the area belonging from Hima Nongstoin, Hima Langrin and Hima Nobosohphoh Syiemship and discussed how to pursue the demand.
During the meeting, the Sordar Shnongs felt that the upgrade of Umdohlun-Wahkaji area into a C&RD Block and bringing administration closer to people has become the need of the hour as the residents have suffered long enough.
The Sordar Shnongs said that many a time they have to undertake an arduous journey of 2-3 hours by vehicle and sometimes 3-4 hours on foot in order to reach the Block Office at Ranikor for official purposes.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Sordar Shnong of Pyndeng Umjarain village under Hima Nongstoin said that the Sordar Shnongs of the area have given full support to the KSU to spearhead the demand for the a new C&RD Block in the Umdohlun-Wahkaji area, which, he added, will benefit the people of Phlangdiloin area, Warsan Lyngdoh area and Mariem-Umdohlun area.
President of the KSU, Lai Hima zone, Shemphang Nonglang, on the other hand, expressed happiness that the meeting decided to take up the issue.
He said that a delegation of the KSU had last year called on the then C&RD Minister with the demand for the C&RD block.
