Guwahati, April 18: The Assam government has finalised the proposed MoU (memorandum of understanding) on the long-pending boundary issues with Arunachal Pradesh.
Assam border protection and development minister Atul Bora informed the media here that the state government has finalised the proposed MoU on the border issue and the same would be sent to the Arunachal Pradesh government for clearance.
“If things go according to plan, the border MoU between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will be signed in a short span of time, most likely in New Delhi, and in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah,” the minister said.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday had an interaction with the Assam regional committees on the boundary issue between the two states at the State Guest House in Koinadhora here.
Ministers, MPs, MLAs related to the regional committees, members of the regional committees, senior officials, guardian secretaries, deputy commissioners and other concerned officials, took part in a meeting.
“A few days back, a chief minister-level meeting was held between the two states at the State Guest House at Koinadhora and after that meeting, our chief minister had invited all the stakeholders to the meeting here today,” Bora said.
“We are confident we will soon find permanent solutions to the long-standing inter-state border issues between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh on amicable terms. This has become possible because of strong and visionary leadership and political goodwill of our chief minister,” Bora said.
“Considerable progress has been made towards ending the decades-old boundary disputes between the two states. We are certain that the people living on either side of the border will soon witness a new dawn of unprecedented development and lasting peace,” the minister said.
