Nongpoh, April 20: An oil tanker caught fire after it had overturned and collided with a light vehicle on the Umroi Bypass at Mawpun Kshaid in Ri Bhoi district at around 1.20 pm today.

According to sources, the oil tanker was over-speeding and overturned at the Umroi Bypass under Mawpun Kshaid village, colliding with another light vehicle, which resulted in a sudden explosion and massive fire on both vehicles.

The Umiam Police Station personnel immediately rushed to the spot along with the fire emergency personnel to control the fire. However, due to the insufficient number of fire tenders, they could not bring the massive flame under control. The police are currently trying to douse the fire, but reports of any casualties are yet to be confirmed.
