SHILLONG, April 20: A three-day entrepreneurship awareness camp on Thursday got under way at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, in a bid to make the students au courant with entrepreneurship, start-up, innovation, marketing an idea and generation of resources for product commercialisation.
According to a statement here, the programme has been sponsored by the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), GoI, and Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Ahmedabad, and is being organised by the Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU.
Over 75 students from different backgrounds as well as the experts from industry and academia are part of the three-day camp.
The inaugural programme was attended by Dean, School of Technology, Prof. Iftekhar Hussain, and Dr Nilesh Trivedi, Assistant Director, MSME, Tura, as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Course Coordinator Dr. Dinesh Bhatia, in his address during the inaugural programme, outlined the objectives of the awareness camp for budding entrepreneurs and how it would benefit the society in the long run.
He highlighted the available opportunities and challenges for the young entrepreneurs who wish to venture in the field of start-ups and innovations, especially in the wake of India surpassing China to become the most populous country.
The guest of honour, on the other hand, highlighted the role of MSME and Centre in promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, the available opportunities and different funding opportunities available in supporting such initiatives.
The chief guest, meanwhile, highlighted the role of start-ups and entrepreneurship and how they can shape the country in the near future.
He promoted the idea to have data centres and suitable market opportunities in the Northeast region, so that young individuals may benefit and may reach their potential.
Prof. Hussain also highlighted the need to keep abreast with recent technological trends where such courses play a pivotal role and help connect people with rapid changing developments.
Others who spoke during the programme were Dr.Sudip Paul, teacher-in-charge, BME Department, NEHU, and Course Co-coordinator Dr Punit Gautam.
