Holiday
The state government has declared paid holiday on May 10 for all state government offices and educational institutions under Sohiong constituency in view of the by-elections. “Industrial undertaking or any of the establishments governed by N.I. Act, 1881, shops and those which work on shift basis, daily wages, casual workers, including those working outside the constituency, shall be entitled to the benefit of a paid holiday as provided in Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951,” a statement in this regard said.
Missing
One Pherson Myrching, aged 40 years old, has gone missing from Mawpat has been missing from Mawpat Circle-II, since April 6. According to police, the person is 5’11” tall, has a swarthy complexion, an average built, round face, black hair, etc. He was last seen wearing a pair of black cargo trousers, black leggings, white and blue striped track jacket, red cap and a pair of black shoes. Meanwhile, people aware of his whereabouts have been asked to call 03642222214 or 883728114.
One Kopal Swer (52) of Dympep village in East Khasi Hills has gone missing since March 20. A missing complaint in this regard was filed with Sohra Police Station by Swer’s family members, who informed that he had left his house on March 20 at around 8 am and had given the key of the house to his son and told him to take care of the house while he will away. According to the family members, when Swer did not return, the village dorbar also made efforts to trace him but to no avail.
Rebuttal
The AHAM Central Executive Board (CEB) in Tura has denied any knowledge of the alleged resignation of 71 of its members from Tura and Assam as claimed earlier, and maintained that the claim could be a mere ploy by some disgruntled elements to draw public attention. “I have not received a single resignation letter and I am shocked by the revelation. Some of those members were already ex-communicated during the term of former president, Champion R Sangma,” AHAM president George Prince Cheran said.

The competition was organised by India Post, NE Circle, Shillong.
Unclaimed body
An unidentified male body, aged approximately 50-60 years, 4.5-feet tall and bearing dark complexion was recovered from a bus stop at Boldoka Selsella, West Garo Hills, on April 18. The person was found wearing a t-shirt and a grey and black striped lungi. The body has, meanwhile, been shifted to Tura Civil Hospital for post-mortem. Relatives of the deceased have also been requested to claim the body within three days.
