Earth Day
The Directorate of Mineral Resources, in collaboration with the Geology Department of St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, will organise a programme to commemorate Earth Day at the college premises on Saturday. According to a statement, the event is thematised on ‘Invest in our Planet’ and will feature various activities and educational exhibits from different departments like GSI, AMD, NESAC, ZSI, BSI, NEHU (Environmental Science), and MPBSC. “There will be prize distribution to students of various secondary schools in Shillong who participated in different competitions such as essay, painting, model making and photography, which were held on 4th April, 2023,” the statement said.

Traffic
In view of the Chad Sukra Festival, which will be celebrated on Saturday and Sunday in Jowai, the Office of the West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police has informed that few traffic arrangements have been made to ensure smooth flow of vehicular movement on Sunday. According to a statement here, all types of vehicles have been barred from plying between 1 pm to 4:30 pm on the road from Thomas Jones Junction towards Iawmusiang Area, from Tpeppale towards Wahnangbah-Iawmusiang Area and from DC Junction towards Iawmusiang Area. Similarly, between 10 am to 2 pm, all types of vehicles have been prohibited from plying on the road from Dulong Junction (Kdohdule) towards Iongpiah side, from Loomiongkjam Junction towards Iongpiah side, from Loomkyrwiang towards Iongpiah side and from From DC Point towards Mission Compound Road (Biar Ki Blai). It was also informed that the entire Iawmusiang area will be declared no-parking zone from 10 am till the festival is over.
