BSF nab two ladies with B’deshi currency along int’l border
SHILLONG, April 24: BSF troopers from the 193rd battalion of the force apprehended two India ladies with Bangladeshi currency worth 90,000 Taka while they were illegally entering into Indian territory. The two ladies were identified as as Primala Hajong and Rimi Bhadra, residents of Betgora village under East Khasi Hills. On being questioned, the duo revealed that they entered Bangladesh through an unfenced section of the border and received Bangladeshi Taka from a prominent smuggler there named Hamid. The seized Bangladeshi currency and apprehended ladies were handed over to Dangar Police Station, East Khasi Hills, for further investigation and legal action.
SSA teachers in Selsella
yet to be paid salaries
TURA, April 24: SSA teachers from Selsella Block in West Garo Hills are yet to reportedly receive their salaries for the months of January and February this year despite their counterparts from other areas of the state having received the same recently. According to the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers Association (AGHSSASTA), the teachers, despite having submitted all data and formats asked for by the authorities under the block, have not been paid their salaries so far. Meanwhile, the association has filed a complaint in this regard to the SPD of SEMAM in Shillong.
Workshop on wildlife crimes in Tura
TURA, April 24: The office of the Deputy Inspector General Police, Western Range, Tura in collaboration with Aaranyak on Monday organised a workshop on Wildlife Crimes and its various dimensions at the District Auditorium in Tura. A total of 200 participants from the police, Forest Department, Village defense parties and nokmas took part in the workshop which was also attended by other dignitaries including the DFO Tura and Divisional Forest Officers of West, South West and South Garo Hills districts. During the workshop, the role of the common masses in conservation of biodiversity through prevention of wildlife crimes was discussed. A former member of the National Board of Wildlife and Aaranyak founder, Dr Talukdar laid emphasis on the synergized efforts for conservation of wildlife and prevention of wildlife crimes, which poses a threat to national security due to nexus between arms smugglers, drug cartels and militants. He also said that successful conservation of wildlife species leads to conservation of habitats and thereby biodiversity.
MIT event on design courses
NONGPOH, April 24: The Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) Shillong on Sunday organised an event called ‘Design Connect’ at the Novotel Hotel in Guwahati with the aim to highlight the benefits of design courses and the career opportunities available in the field. The speakers at the event were Dr Malhar Pangrikar (Vice Chancellor of MITD-Shillong), Dr Debayan Dhar (IIT Guwahati), and Dr Udaya Kumar (IIT Guwahati), all of whom are distinguished individuals with a mastery of design from the Northeast. The event was followed by a feedback poll and was characterised by an interactive session where attendees exchanged ideas and knowledge with the speakers.
