TURA, April 24: The Tura Government College Students’ Union (TGCSU) on Monday endorsed the ongoing demand for a Winter Capital in Tura and said that that the realiation of the same will fulfill the long-cherished dreams of the founding fathers of the state.
Announcing its support to the A’CHIK, which is spearheading the demand, the college body, in a statement, said, “The TGCSU … supports A’CHIK in the demand for the winter capital and endorses that 1972 be taken as the cut-off year with regard to the roster system implementation.”
The group reminded that the demand for the winter capital is a long-cherished dream of the founding fathers of the state and maintained that the realisation of the demand would be the fulfillment of the visions of the state’s architect of the past. The group maintained that the rift and disharmony between the three major tribes of Meghalaya have existed due to the non-implementation of the Winter Capital in Tura as the other tribes are not exposed to Garo Hills and the Garo tribe.
