NONGPOH, April 25: The FKJGP has lambasted the KHADC and its Executive Member in-charge of Trade for the failure to check the mushrooming of illegal industries and factories in Umiam, Ri-Bhoi.
Following reports of industries operating without legal documents and workers lacking the necessary licences, the FKJGP conducted a surprise inspection on Tuesday and discovered that 5-6 factories were operating illegally. The federation locked down these establishments.
General secretary of FKJGP North Khasi Hills District, Shanlang Diengdoh criticised the KHADC and EM in-charge Trade for the alleged inaction which has resulted in locals being deprived of employment opportunities.
The FKJGP has demanded immediate action against the erring factories.
