SHILLONG, April 25: Senior advocate VGK Kynta on Tuesday resigned from the primary membership of the BJP, as he was unhappy with the party for not giving him any assignment since he had joined the party on November 28 last year.
“It was futile to join the saffron party. Till date, I was not given any assignment to work for the party. Not only this, I was never invited for any meeting of the party,” Kynta said after submitting his resignation to State BJP president Ernest Mawrie.
Kynta, however, hinted that his tribal-centric stand and a blunt way of raising issues afflicting the state was not in sync with the leadership of State BJP. He also expressed regret over castigating the regional parties and other political parties on the day he had joined the BJP. “I am very sorry for making such remarks. I understand that every party has its own ideologies for the development and welfare of the state,” the senior advocate said.
Kynta refrained from a direct comment on whether he would contest next year’s Lok Sabha polls from Shillong. He said, “I am not a politician. I do not subscribe to the idea of bribing the voters to get their support. I am a person who earns livelihood by practising law.”
He however revealed that none of the political parties have approached him.
