Mourning
The state government has declared two-day state mourning on Wednesday and Thursday as a mark of respect to former chief minister of Punjab, Parkash Sing Badal, who breathed his last on Tuesday. “During the period of State Mourning, the National Flag will be flown at half mast throughout the State and there will be no official entertainment on these two days,” a statement here said.
Awards
The Ministry of Home Affairs had instituted an award, viz. ‘Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards, 2023’ for meritorious acts of human nature such as saving lives of people in incidents like drowning, accidents, fire incidents, electrocution, landslides, animal attack and rescue operation in mines, etc. According to a statement, the awards will be conferred in three categories, namely Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak, and Jeevan Raksha Padak. “As the name of the award suggests, the award is given to a rescuer for saving someone’s life,” the statement said.
Seminar
Celebrating 53rd Earth Day, the School of Science, William Carey University, Meghalaya successfully conducted a two-day national seminar which concluded on Wednesday. Cabinet Minister AL Hek was the chief guest on the occasion. The topic of the seminar was ‘Sustainability in Action: Celebrating Earth Day and Building a Greener Future’.
Cleaning drive
A cleaning programme at the cremation ground of Seng Khasi at Jaiaw will be held on April 30 from 9 am, Joint Secretary of the Cremation Ground Committee, Seng Khasi Kmie Mawkhar, Mario Sunn, informed.
