SHILLONG, April 28: Congress MLA Saleng Sangma has argued that the former MLAs, who deserted Congress to join other parties such as TMC and NPP, could have won the recently concluded Assembly elections if they had remained in the party.
Admitting that the party could not do well as expected due to hasty decisions in finalising candidates, Sangma, however, said that the party now has five MLAs even though it did not have any MLA before the elections. “It means we have done something,” he said.
Stating that most of the MLAs who joined NPP and TMC after deserting Congress did not win the elections, he said that they could have won the elections if they had stayed with the Congress.
Exuding confidence about winning the upcoming Sohiong by-elections, Sangma said the trust of the people is with Congress in Sohiong since the constituency has been a strong bastion for the grand-old party over the years.
