Auto-rickshaw rams into truck; two dead in RB

NONGPOH, April 30: Two passengers onboard an auto-rickshaw were killed on the Lumdiengngan-Shillong bypass road on Saturday evening after it collided with a truck (AS 01 MC 1767).
Police said the truck driver was Ribaitki Papang, a resident of Ritang village, West Jaintia Hills. The truck was en route to Jowai from Byrnihat when the accident took place.
The auto-rickshaw (ML10 B 8434) was travelling from Jowai and moving towards Byrnihat. However, the auto-rickshaw was reportedly plying on the wrong side of the road. The truck driver tried to avoid the collision but failed. Instead, the truck overturned and fell on top of the auto-rickshaw.
The deceased have been identified as Kumarlang Marbaniang of Umket and Marbudkini Pakyntein of Wahjiar, both died on the spot.
