Shillong, May 1: Elon Musk, owner of Twitter is apparently taking another drastic step to save costs after laying off 50% of its workers.

Twitter will no longer provide four months of paid parental leave, according to a tweet by The New York Times’ tech correspondent Kate Conger. Instead, there will only be two weeks available.

According to the story citing “internal docs,” Twitter is considering changing its parental leave policy in light of the law. The US does not have a federal statute that ensures employees have access to paid leave. But some states have put safeguards in place for the workforce.

The tweet by Conger reads that Twitter used to offer employees 20 weeks of paid parental leave. That’s being changed to whatever is required by law in the region where the employees work, along with a ‘top up’ of two weeks of leave, per internal docs.

Twitter has not confirmed the modification to its parental leave guidelines.

Twitter’s past leadership has been charged by Musk with operating the business in a non-profit manner. He fired half of the Twitter team after taking over in October 2022, and further staff members were let go in the months that followed.
