SHILLONG, May 2: Sohiong, the Assembly constituency that goes to the polls on May 10, has more female voters than males.
Chief Electoral Officer, FR Kharkongor told reporters on Tuesday that more than 34,000 voters are expected to exercise their franchise for the Sohiong seat across 63 polling stations.
The constituency has more than 16,000 male voters while the number of female voters is about 17,000, he said.
He further said there are 12 sensitive polling stations and 32 probable trouble mongers that have been booked under Section 107 of the CrPC.
The CEO also said three nakas have been set up in as many strategic locations of the constituency with flying squads stationed at the point of entry to Sohiong.
Kharkongor also said all the women flying squad members have been stationed near Mawmaram. Five companies of CAPF have been deployed too.
Informing that area domination is still going on, he said there is no specific complaint of any violence.
The CEO said 60% of the polling stations will be under webcasting. He also said the counting for the Sohiong seat will be held at the State Central Library on April 13.
A total of 134 senior citizens and 54 people with disabilities who opted for home voting have already cast their votes, Kharkongor said.
He said a few who opted for home voting later decided to cast their votes in the polling stations while two have expired.
