SHILLONG, May 5: Troops of BSF Meghalaya Frontier on Thursday foiled a smuggling attempt at a border area in West Jaintia Hills, and rescued 70 cattle.
According to a statement, the BSF personnel, deployed at Amlarem, had intercepted five Bangladesh-bound trucks in which 70 cattle were crammed.
Albeit the drivers of the vehicles managed to flee the scene, taking advantage of thick vegetation and undulating ground along the road, the BSF troops managed to seize five trucks and one Bolero pick-up and nabbed two helpers from the spot.
Both the apprehended persons, according to the BSF, are residents of Assam.
