Shillong, May 7: A shooter went on the rampage at a crowded mall north of Dallas on Saturday, killing up to eight people and injuring seven more.
Several visitors fled the mall in fear after the shooting, which is the most recent act of gun violence to occur in the nation. Police Chief Brian Harvey of the Texas city said during a press conference that the gunman, who investigators said they suspect acted alone, was shot and killed by a police officer after opening fire outside the Allen Premium Outlets mall.
At least nine individuals with gunshot wounds were sent to nearby hospitals, Allen Fire Department Chief Jon Boyd stated at the same press conference.
According to a Medical City Healthcare spokeswoman, the patients’ ages ranged from 5 to 61 and they were being treated at three trauma centres.
A police officer, who was on an unrelated assignment at the time of the incident, heard gunfire, went towards it, and killed the shooter, according to Chief Harvey.
“The policeman confronted the culprit and removed the danger. After that, he made an emergency call”, Allen Fire Department said and added that nine individuals were sent to nearby hospitals.
After the violence broke out, hundreds of people could be seen leaving the mall in the images that were broadcast on television.
