1.52 L fake mobile connections in M’laya, 5 other NE states

SHILLONG, May 11: The Department of Telecom (DoT) has detected around 1.52 lakh suspected connections subscribed based on fake or forged documents involving different telecom service providers in Meghalaya and five other states of the Northeast, including Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. Over 1.47 lakh mobile connections that failed in re-verification process have been disconnected in the region. So far, telecom service providers have blacklisted 493 points of sale and registered 71 police complaints. The DoT said cybercrimes, financial frauds and antisocial activities are mainly committed through SIMs fraudulently subscribed on forged documents.
