SHILLONG, May 15: The Transport Department is awaiting reports from the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of East Garo Hills before initiating any action against District Transport Officer, Gene Kelly G Momin who was arrested by Assam police for allegedly issuing fake vehicle registration documents.
A senior government official said on Monday that a decision on suspending the DTO will be taken only after receipt of the reports.
Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar declined to comment on the matter saying he was yet to collect the details pertaining to the case. “I will seek a detailed report into the case. It will not be appropriate on my part to say anything on the punitive action against the DTO until the details of this case are with me,” he said.
Asked about the reported irregularities in the DTO offices, Dhar said they can take action only when there is a complaint.
