KSU seeks action against non-tribal vendors without trading licence
JOWAI, May 17: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Jowai unit, on Tuesday urged the JHADC to act against non-tribal vendors without trading licence. The appeal came following a surprise inspection conducted by the KSU at Ïawmusiang, Jowai, during which the Union reportedly detected many non-tribal vendors without trading licence and without any proper documents. The KSU said that despite the JHADC and district administration’s opposition to roadside vending, the same was being practised unabated at Iawmusiang. The union, comprising assistant general secretary J. Yndoh, office secretary W. Phawa, et al, have, meanwhile, warned the non-tribal vendors without trading licence against conducting any trade or business.

Shillong College students attend exchange programme in Assam
SHILLONG, May 17: Students of Mathematics department of Shillong College on Tuesday took part in a day-long student exchange programme, which was organised at Sonapur College in Assam. According to a statement here, the programme was aimed at providing opportunities to the students of both the colleges to mutually learn and develop understanding among themselves through different activities. Altogether 56 students of Shillong College led by faculty members, Sh. Spainborlng Kharchandy and Ebor Niang, took part in the programme. Some of the highlights of the programme include speeches on importance of student exchange programmes, student leadership in higher education institutes, an interactive session on ‘Fun with Simple Mathematics’, musical performance, speech on importance of education for the future leaders of the country, among others.

Two-day education fair in
Shillong from tomorrow
SHILLONG, May 17: A two-day education fair for students will get under way in Shillong on Friday. According to a statement here, the education fair, viz. Edufest will be held at Hotel Vivanta Shillong “Edufest is an opportunity for students and parents to directly interact with the representatives of the institutions and answer all the queries about qualifications required for admission to courses, cut-off information and scholarship opportunities,” the statement said. It may be mentioned that the Edufest, which is also North-East India’s largest education fair, has so far benefitted over eight lakh students and parents.

Developmental works at
Ri-Bhoi school inaugurated
NONGPOH, May 17: Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem and Nongpoh MDC Balajied Rani on Wednesday inaugurated three significant developmental works at Umlakhar Presbyterian Secondary School in Umling C&RD Block. The inaugural programme saw unveiling of an extended school building, improvement to the playground and the construction of new toilets, the construction of which were undertaken from the funds by the State Rural Works Programme (SRWP) and the 15th Finance Commission of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) for Rs. two lakh and Rs. three lakh respectively. During their speeches, Syiem and Rani commended the developmental works and emphasised that the school would soon be celebrating its silver jubilee. They also called for the cooperation of the school managing committee and teachers in further taking the school forward. Syiem, on the occasion, also announced that he will provide computer sets and construct a dedicated teachers’ room within the school premises.

New members for FKJGP in Pynursla
SHILLONG, May 17: The FKJGP Riwar Mihngi Circle, Pynursla, has elected its new office bearers for 2023-2026 at an induction ceremony at the community hall of Dong Nenggate, Pynursla, on Tuesday in the presence of Rangbah Dong of Nenggate, Ennocent Khongstia and president of KSU Pynursla, Sanlang Benhanan. Senior FKJGP vice president Elton C Warjri and general secretary Eldie Newton Lyngdoh also spoke on the occasion. The new office-bearers are Evanfield Khonglam (president), Teddy A Dkhar and Augustine Ryngksai (vice presidents), Eleazer Diengdoh (general secretary), Hilary Khongsdam (assistant secretary), Ialambok Masynting (education secretary), among others.
