SHILLONG, May 18: The Khasi Jaintia Christian Leaders Forum (KJCLF) on Thursday welcomed the announcement by the government of initiating the tripartite peace talks between the state, Centre and the outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) in June.
“For the citizens of our state, the yearning and quest for peace has been long, chequered and alternating,” KJCLF secretary, Rev Edwin H. Kharkongor said in a statement.
“The KJCLF recognises and acknowledges the great pace and confident stride of the HNLC as well as of the two other parties involved and prays for the success of this important endeavour,” the statement said.
The Forum exuded confidence that the peace parleys will result in a purposeful and inclusive quilt of peace, justice, security and safety of the land and the people.
