JOWAI, May 21: Over two decades since the foundation stone for the Jowai supermarket complex was laid by late PA Sangma in 2001-02, the project remains incomplete to this day.
The project, sanctioned by the Ministry of DoNER, is worth Rs 18.09 crore
The project aimed at easing congestion at the old market, but has instead brought hardships for the people, especially the shopkeepers.
It may be mentioned that the old market was swiftly dismantled and shifted to a new location at Iawthymme Ladthadlaboh Jowai.
During electioneering ahead of the general elections this year, candidates had promised the people of Jaintia Hills the completion of the new market if elected. The promise, clearly, is yet to be fulfilled.
