Man poses as IB officer to dupe people, nabbed

SHILLONG, May 25: Police have arrested one Richard Tiplang (39) for impersonating as an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer to dupe people of their money on the promise of providing jobs.
According to a statement here, a complaint was filed on May 16 that Tiplang, claiming to be an IB officer under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), had offered to provide jobs in the Secretariat, Shillong, through MPSC and DSC.
He had also told the complainant to collect an amount from all interested persons according to their qualifications.
It was after this the complainant was successful in collecting Rs 80 lakh from 38 persons within a span of one year.
After the amount was paid to the accused, the complainant was reportedly evaded.
According to another complaint, which was filed on May 22, Tiplang had now impersonated as an officer of the Police Special Branch, and had told the complainant that he could provide jobs in the Police department under the condition that an amount of Rs one lakh each is paid by candidates with qualification below Class X and Rs. 50,000 each is paid by candidates with matriculation qualification.
After informing about the same to his friends, one of the complainant’s friends handed over an advance amount of Rs. 50,000 to the person through his driver at Motphran in March.
Meanwhile, police have nabbed the accused and seized a Bolero (ML-05-Z-3007) with siren and VIP blinker, mobile, laptop and incriminating papers from his house at Wahingdoh.
Meanwhile, people who have been duped by Tiplang have also been asked to come forward and file a complaint in their nearest police station.
