When Shillongites found respite from power blues
By now, every Shillongite has her/his daily routine planned out according to the schedule of power cuts. Any activity requiring electricity is put off until after load-shedding hours, the drill is clear.
But on Friday, citizens were overjoyed as they were granted an exemption from the regular power cuts, in what is being widely perceived as a day off for students to efficiently go through the admission process after the SSLC and HSSLC (Arts) results.
Apart from students, the general public seem to have made the most out of the day.
A short walk in any neighbourhood between 1 and 3 pm that day felt different — sounds of music playing, TV, kitchen appliances, et al filled the otherwise silent locality.
But the day was short-lived.
The next day arrived and around 10 am, as everyone expected the MeECL to hand another gift to them, all dreams came down shattering.

Intertwined wires lay unattended on a pavement towards Loreto Convent School, causing inconvenience and
posing threat to the pedestrians
and schoolchildren alike. (ST)
