Vehicle with eels overturns, people go on fishing spree

NONGPOH, May 31: In a bizarre incident that unfolded on Wednesday afternoon, a truck overturned on NH-6 in Ri-Bhoi and live eels onboard the vehicle were thrown off the vehicle and people began collecting the eels, which is a delicacy among sea foods.
The incident, which occurred near 19 Mer (19th Mile) area, resulted in minor injuries to the driver.
According to reliable sources, the truck (ML 05 H 3500) was heading towards Guwahati when the accident occurred. Witnesses reported that the unexpected sight of several eels wriggling on the road diverted people’s attention from the accident to an impromptu eel-catching spree.
With the driver having sustained minor injuries, the mishap turned into an amusement for several as the crowd grew and many went home with bags filled with eels.
Several onlookers were also seen joining in the others seemingly enjoying the unexpected diversion from their daily routines.
