SHILLONG, June 1: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has petitioned Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma demanding action against wanton waste of public funds on political appointees and non-functional bodies.
Quoting RTI replies, the HYC said between March, 2018 and February, 2023, the government constituted the Meghalaya Economic Development Council (MEDC), the Meghalaya Resource and Employment Generation Council (MREGC) and the Regional Planning and Development Council (RPDC), Khasi Hills Region.
“Public fund to the tune of about Rs 4.5 crore was spent but these bodies have not performed any of their duties and functions in the last five years,” the HYC said.
Condemning the unnecessary and unproductive expenditure by the state government, the HYC termed it a fraud committed on the citizens of the state. It demanded that the officials of these bodies should reimburse the full amount they have claimed since they have contributed nothing to the state.
The HYC also asked the government to come up with a concrete policy on the working of these bodies.
