WKH man charged with sexual assault of 15 minors, held

NONGSTOIN, June 1: A hair-raising incident has come to light from a village in West Khasi Hills after it was found out that as many as 15 minors were allegedly sexually assaulted by a person within a span of one year.
The startling revelation came to light from Umsaw Tyllang village following the commission of the crime on a 10-year-old boy, who was the latest victim.
According to sources, the accused has started perpetrating the crime from 2022 till the end of May 2023.
The boy was reportedly sexually assaulted on May 29 following which he was taken to the Nongstoin Civil Hospital by his family for check-up.
After the doctor confirmed that the boy had been sexually assaulted, the victim revealed the name of the accused.
On being informed by the doctor, the police subsequently nabbed one Meban Shangoi on May 31 in the presence of the Sordar of Umsaw along with other elders of the village.
Meanwhile, according Sordar of the village, A Ramri, a meeting was organised on Thursday to discuss the matter. It was during the meeting, 14 other minor victims came forward to reveal that they too were sexually assaulted by the same person.
Out of the 14 victims, one was found to be the niece of the accused.
