MAWKYRWAT, June 4: The carcass of a pig was found afloat Rilang river at Mawranglang, 5 km from Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills.
The carcass, believed to have been thrown dumped in the river, was discovered by the locals on Saturday morning under the Rilang Bridge near Mawranglang village.
The village authorities were alerted, and the carcass was later retrieved and buried.
Speaking to media persons, Myntri of Mawranglang village Clearson Kharsyiemlieh condemned the persons responsible for dumping the animal carcass into the river defying the rules and regulations that prohibit dumping of dead animals and garbage into rivers.
The Myntri also expressed concern over the non-cooperation of the people dumping garbage on the road from Mawranglang to Rilang river.
“The residents of the village as a whole also condemned those people responsible for turning our village into a dumping ground of garbage including plastics, bottles, etc,” Kharsyiemlieh said as he requested the people to not pollute the environment.
He also warned that stern action would be taken if anyone is found dumping garbage including plastics, bottles, dead animals, etc., in the village and into the Rilang river.
