NONGPOH, June 10: Religious leaders from the Northeast gathered in Nongpoh on Saturday to participate in a rally, expressing their unwavering support for those who have suffered injustices and calling for change in the face of alarming events occurring across the nation.
Organised by the Conference of Religious India (CRI), Ri-Bhoi zone, the rally commenced from the Nongpoh Town Shopping Complex and proceeded towards Pahamsyiem, culminating at the Nongpoh Parish.
Participants were seen marching with placards, bringing to attention various issues plaguing the country.
Br. Sunil Britto, president of the Conference of Religious India Ri-Bhoi zone, emphasised the urgent need to address the numerous instances of violence and discrimination faced by marginalised communities.
Some of the issues he highlighted include targeting of Christians and tribals in Manipur, persistent attacks on church personnel and institutions, normalisation of hate speech, issue of women wrestlers, et al.
He then urged the gathering to rise above their differences and embrace compassion and reject hatred.
