Shillong, June 19: Hundreds of Indian-Americans gathered at iconic locations across the United States on Sunday night to express their welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his upcoming state visit to Washington.

In the Washington DC area, a few hundred Indian-Americans gathered near the National Monument, chanting slogans of “Modi Modi” and celebrating India-US friendship. Similar scenes of excitement and unity were observed at landmarks like Times Square in New York and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

The enthusiasm and support from the Indian diaspora were evident as participants walked in a procession for over an hour, culminating in an impromptu dance at the historic Lincoln Memorial.

The welcome ceremony on the South Lawns of the White House, scheduled for Thursday, is expected to attract several thousand Indian-Americans who eagerly await the moment when President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will extend their greetings to Prime Minister Modi.
