JAC unhappy with work progress at WJH temple

JOWAI, June 21: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Wednesday aired concern over the slow work progress on Nartiang Shakti Peeth in West Jaintia Hills.
Comprising FKJGP, MPUF, JSU and JPWO, the JAC inspected the site project of Development of Infrastructure for Pilgrimage Facilitation, implemented by the Tourism department, under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) Scheme.
During inspection, the JAC found that as per tender agreement, the work was supposed to be completed within 18 months from the date of issue of the work order.
It is sad to see that despite the date of completion of the said work being over, most of the works have not yet been started, JAC chairman Bin Raliang and JAC secretary Chalester Myria said.
They said that out of 12 different works amounting to Rs 489.85 lakh, only four have been completed, which include temple gate (2 nos), public convenience, viewers’ gallery and multipurpose pilgrimage.
The constructions of Parking Lot and Nartiang Monolith Walk Development remain incomplete, while the rest which include the site development with landscaping, drinking water, solid waste management, resting shed (2 nos), illumination of Nartiang Monolith and Nartiang Shakti Peeth are yet to be started, they rued.
It may be mentioned that appeals from the JAC as well as the Dorbar Shnong of Nartiang for government intervention had also fallen on deaf ears.
